Samsung’s ‘Galaxy Gear’ smartwatch will reportedly be announced on September 4th

Bloomberg reports that Samsung will reportedly unveil its long rumoured smartwatch on September 4th. According to the publication, the South Korean company will call the product the Galaxy Gear, which will include similar functionality to a smartphone. It’s not entirely clear if the watch will operate independently of a smartphone or pair as a companion device, but Bloomberg alludes to the ability to make phone calls.

In addition, the watch will apparently allow wearers to check their email and browse the internet. That seems a little impractical for a small screen device that’s supposed to sit on your wrist, but we’ll have to see how Samsung will implement all the features that have been mentioned by Bloomberg. The publication did quash rumours of a flexible display, however, but noted that Samsung is continuing to research the technology.

Bloomberg’s report corroborates a similar claim made by SamMobile. The site also believes that the Galaxy Gear will make an appearance on September 4th, going on to say that the watch will work alongside current Galaxy smartphones running Android.

We’re also expecting to see the Galaxy Note 3 at Samsung’s September 4th event a few days before the official IFA 2013 event kicks off on September 6th. Rumoured specifications for Samsung’s latest Note entry include a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 800 SoC, 3GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation.
