Samsung to introduce new Galaxy Mega phablet range

Samsung is rumoured to have changed the name of its new big-screen phablet devices, rebranding them the ‘Galaxy Mega’ range. The new big-screen smartphones will sit alongside the Samsung Galaxy smartphone range, but will not be part of the Samsung Galaxy Note line-up.

SamMobile is reporting two devices are in the works with model numbers corresponding to the Galaxy phone, rather than Note range. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 (GT-I9152) has 5.8-inch screen and comes in white and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9200) has a 6.3-inch screen and comes in black.

We’re not really sure how true the rumours are – would Samsung really release another range of big-screen mobile devices/phablets when it’s already got the Note range? Unless, instead of an S-Pen (like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0)  these are cheaper devices. Samsung does tend to flood the market with products – at all price points – so it’s not inconcievable that it could introduce a new range.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 allegedly launches in week 22 and the Samsung Galaxy Note follows in week 26. The news come from SamMobile, which tends to be accurate with some of its Samsung rumour stories, but at the moment we’d treat this with a healthy dose of scepticism.
