LG confirms Optimus 3D. “The world’s first 3D smartphone.”

We saw a rumoured picture of the Optimus 3D only yesterday, but today LG is confirming that they’ll be unveiling the world’s first 3D smartphone at this month’s Mobile World Congress 2011.

The phone will be toting dual-lens cameras, meaning you’ll not only be able to view 3D content on your phone, you’ll also be able to make it. It seems like it will follow the Optimus styling of the recently revealed Optimus Black and 2X, but promises a “one-of-a-kind” experience.

The screen will be a “glasses-free” LCD display, we’re guessing powered by Nvidia’sTegra 2 3D chip, made especially for 3D phones. The leaked picture suggests it may be initially running Android 2.2 (Froyo), but we hope it’ll have the latest Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) by the time we can get our hands on it.

LG are promising HDMI and DLNA connections to put those 3D creations on the huge 3D screens they deserve, distancing itself from the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS and 3D cameras already available.

Expect to hear more from Mobile World Congress, starting Monday 14th February. Not long now.
