Gorillaz launch Escape to Plastic Beach games for iPhone and iPad

Hot from their headlining slot at Glastonbury, the Gorillaz have now got their own iPhone and iPad game based on their latest album Plastic Beach.

The game came out this morning, and costs a bargainous £1.19 whichever device you buy it for. It sees you playing the cartoon band’s leader Murdoc, flying around on a ‘Doom Glider’ shooting the bejaysus out of pirates and other enemies, while avoiding all manner of obstacles.

It promises eight levels of gliding action, with 3D visuals from Gorillaz co-mastermind Jamie Hewlett, and music from the album itself. Relatively few bands have launched their own iOS games – Slayer Pinball Rocks HD springs to mind, along with the various bands who’ve got Tap Tap Revenge spin-offs (Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Nirvana…).

But Escape to Plastic Beach looks like it could be up there with the best, with gameplay reminiscent of iPhone hit Glyder – except with more guns, obviously. Here’s a video of my first two minutes playing with it:
