Moto G5 Plus in a nutshell: Specs, rumours, UK price and release date

Moto G5 Plus in a nutshell: We uncover the rumours, leaks and hearsay about the Moto G5 Plus, the next great-value Moto G phone from Lenovo, which is set to launch early in 2017. Here’s what we know so far about the Moto G5 Plus’ specs, plus a possible UK price and release date.

If you’re after a mobile phone packing solid specs and some premium features, but your budget is rather limited, the Moto G series is a great choice. Last year’s Moto G4 costs from just £169 SIM-free, while the G4 Plus offers a camera upgrade and fingerprint sensor for just £199. Both handsets give you a sharp and colourful Full HD screen, respectable performance, decent battery life and an easy-to-use camera experience. Not bad for under two hundred quid.

In 2017, the Moto G4 and G4 Plus will be succeeded by the Moto G5 and G5 Plus. We’ve already seen leaked pics and details on the Moto G5 Plus, which once again sports a spacious 5.5-inch screen and the latest version of Android.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Moto G5 Plus, including speculation on the UK price and release date.

Moto G5 Plus in a nutshell: Design

Last year’s Moto G4 and G4 Plus sported a plastic finish and while it was perfectly fine for the price, the aesthetics didn’t exactly blow us away. Thankfully the Moto G5 Plus steps up the game, with a fresh new metallic design that looks sleek and smart.

The G5 Plus looks to be a slimmer handset than the G4 Plus, whose wide design made it a struggle to use one-handed. Meanwhile that metal surfacing should hopefully prove scratch resistant, to make the phone reassuringly rugged.

Moto G5 Plus in a nutshell: Features

You can still expect a Full HD 5.5-inch display, just like last year’s model, but most of the other specs have been updated for 2017.

In the Moto G5 Plus you’ll find a Snapdragon 625, if the rumours are on the money, backed by a generous 4GB of RAM for smooth everyday operation. 32GB of storage space will be easily expanded by slotting in a microSD memory card.

The 3080mAh battery will hopefully keep you going all day and then some, while the 13-megapixel rear camera is an all-new shooter for this generation. The Moto G5 Plus also apparently packs a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

And as usual, the latest version of Android will come pre-installed on the new Moto G – in this case, Android Nougat.

Moto G5 Plus in a nutshell: UK price and release date

You can expect the Moto G5 Plus to launch around MWC 2017, a massive mobile expo that kicks off at the end of February. However, Lenovo tends to launch its handsets outside of the big expos, so we’re anticipating a separate launch event, perhaps in early March.

The Moto G5 Plus will then likely go on sale in the UK in late March, for the same £199 asking price as its predecessor.

We’ll update when we have official confirmation of the Moto G5’s launch.
