2014 Renault Twingo pictures, price and specs

A UK price and specification is out of the bag for the new Renault Twingo. The cutesy supermini is available to order now, with first deliveries expected to arrive in September.

The third-generation Renault Twingo is rear-engined, rear wheel drive and has five doors – all a first for the model. It comes in Expression, Play and Dynamique trim levels with either a 1.0-litre 70hp sCe three-cylinder petrol or a TCe 90 0.9-litre 90hp three-cylinder turbo under the bonnet.

The 1.0-litre sCe takes 14.5 seconds to go from 0 to 62mph. Not exactly fast, then. Torque is 90Nm at 2,850rpm. More impressive is the claimed 62.8mpg and 105g/km of CO2 emissions.

Renault’s TCe, meanwhile, offers 135Nm of torque from 2,500rpm, a 10.8-second 0 to 62mph, 65.7mpg and 99g/km of CO2. Both engines are a tad more frugal with the Stop & Start system fitted as standard to the Dynamique models.

Although 10cm shorter than its predecessor, the 3.59-metre 2014 Twingo has a 12cm longer wheelbase and 22cm more interior space. The boot is 219 litres or 980 litres with the seats folded forward, adding an extra 52 litres of interior storage space to the cockpit.

Standard equipment includes body-coloured bumpers, door handles and exterior door mirror shells plus a rear spoiler, LED daytime running lights, split-folding two-seat rear bench, remote central locking, power steering and trip computer.

There’s also Renault’s smartphone-operated infotainment system, which allows you to access navigation, apps, music streaming and internet radio, to make journeys more interesting.

The Play spec adds air-conditioning, height-adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel and 15-inch two-tone black alloy wheel trims.

Dynamique throws in 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, electric heated door mirrors, lane departure warning system, leather on the steering wheel and gearstick, folding key and storage pockets in the rear doors.

Extensive customisation options let you tailor the new Twingo to your liking, a la Fiat 500 style. The Interior Touch Pack (£100) adds colour to the interior panels, while the Exterior Touch Pack (also £100) adds grille strips and side protection strips for a little extra style.

The Dynamique model has access to a unique £850 Sport Pack, which adds 16-inch alloys, part-leather red and black upholstery, side decals, aluminium pedaps and colour throughout the interior. A panoramic sunroof (£850), rear parking sensors (£150) and a better sound system can be specified.

A Renault Twingo Expression sCe 70 starts from £9,495, while the Play sCe 70 is £5 under £10,000. A top-spec Twingo Dynamique TCe 90 with Stop and Start is £11,695.

We can see the cheeky Twingo becoming a bit of a hit in the UK, even in the face of competition from the Peugeot 108, Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1.
