Alpina has announced details of the new B5 Biturbo, a souped-up saloon that makes the BMW M5 seem a bit feeble in the horsepower department.
The Alpina B5 Biturbo’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers an impressive 591bhp and 591lb/ft of torque, 40hp and 90lb/ft more than the M5, respectively. In fact, it’s more 15hp powerful than the M5 with the Competition Package and on par with the 30 Yahre edition.
In combination with a ZF eight-speed automatic, the new B5 Biturbo manages 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds ─ one-tenth faster than the M5 – and onto a top speed of 204mph.
Not content with making it even more powerful, Alpina has also customised the suspension, added an aero kit, fitted its trademark multi-spoke alloy wheels, improved its track prowess with a Drexler Motor Sport limited-slip differential and made the interior a bit more comfy.
Optional extras include an Akrapovic titanium exhaust (17kg lighter than the standard system) and larger brakes. The individual number for each car is also present.
The new B5 Biturbo available in saloon and estate versions, which means you’ll be able to lug the family around with all the luggage that inevitably entails.
What’s the catch? It is unclear if the UK will get a right-hand drive version, and if it does you can bet low production numbers. Just two ‘Edition 50’ examples of its predecessor were sold in this country. Fingers crossed, eh?
