Audi gives the TT three more doors in Paris-showcased Sportback Concept

Audi has given its beloved two-door TT three more doors. The five-door Audi TT Sportback has graced the Paris Motor Show this week as a concept that is being considered for production.

The Sportback edition of the TT is six centimetres wider, three centimetres lower and 29 centimetres longer than its two-door cousin. An extra 12 centimetres takes the wheelbase to 2.63 metres, putting the TT Sportback mere centimetres shy of an A5 coupé

The Audi TT Sportback Concept has room for four passengers, each of whom gets their own individual seat with integrated head restraints. Everybody gets their own armrest, a decent number of functional storage compartments and the rear seatbacks can be folded down so large loads can be stored in the boot beneath the tailgate

The TT Sportback Concept purportedly uses a hugely powerful 400PS version of an Audi 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, sending power to all four wheels via an S tronic twin-clutch transmission. That, says the company, is sufficient for a 0-62mph sprint time of 3.9 seconds, which is right up there with the four-door Ferrari FF.

Audi reckon the TT Sportback will offer 40.3 mpg while expelling 162g/km of CO2, which isn’t bad given the power on offer.

Professor Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Developments, says: “In the years since [creating the TT], we have designed our sporty and elegant five-door A5 Sportback and A7 Sportback. In our Audi TT Sportback concept show car, we are now fusing both concepts to form a new member of a potential TT family.”

Will the five-door Audi TT go into production? We’ll have to wait and see — that decision rests largely on how readers such as yourself receive it. Would you buy one? Let us know in the comments below.
