Brabus turns the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG into an 838bhp monster

Brabus will tune your E63 AMG into an 838bhp tyre-shredding monster of a machine – provided you have exceedingly deep pockets.

Brabus is known for turning run-of-the-mill Mercedes-Benz into ludicrously powerful, fire-breathing vehicles that strike fear every time you plant your right foot. The latest offering comes in the form of the new E63 AMG.

Give the German tuning master enough money and it will happily give you a Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo in return, whether that’s a saloon or wagon. 611, 650 and 720 horsepower tuning options are available if you feel slightly less brave. You big pansy.

A bored-out 6.0-litre V8, which replaces the chunkier standard 6.9-litre V12, develops a staggering 838bhp at peak. Even more impressive is the maximum torque figure of 1,450Nm or 1,069lb/ft. Enough to make the laws of physics a minor inconvenience and the 585bhp E63 AMG S model seem a bit feeble.

3.7 seconds is the 0 to 62mph time in rear-wheel drive and 3.1 seconds with the 4Matic all-wheel drive. Either way, you’ll eventually top out at a ridiculous 217mph ─ if you happen to live near a road like the Autobahn or own an airstrip. A modified Speedshift MCT seven-speed gearbox plays its role in getting there.

You would think that much power would blow the doors off every time you start the engine, but you needn’t worry as you get a three-year Brabus tuning warranty for peace of mind. Brabus has also detuned the engine to 1,150Nm to help with powertrain preservation.

Changes to the E63 AMG can be seen elsewhere. It comes with special tyres from Continental, Pirelli and Yokohama, which are wrapped around 20-inch alloys of a Brabus Monoblock or Monoblock R “Platinum Edition” flavour. There’s also a Brabus sport exhaust with two dual tailpipes and some crazy carbon fibre body work here and there.

You can specify a handcrafted fine leather interior in any colour you want. Brabus race pedals and Brabus aluminium shift paddles complete the unique cockpit.

A pre-made Mercedes-Benz Brabus 850 E63 AMG S 4Matic will set you back €295,618 (£241,000) including VAT, giving you some idea how much the upgrade is going to cost.

That’s supercar money, we hear you cry. True, but remember something before you take your envious bank balance elsewhere. This particular Merc blends supercar performance with unparalleled luxury and practicality. How many other cars can do that?
