Caterham has announced a variant of its Seven model that is a nod to the Seven Sprint, which was planned to launch in the 1960s but never did.
The Caterham Sprint Seven is going on sale on the 9th of September, 2016, ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Seven, and will start from £27,995. It is powered by the same 80hp, three-cylinder found in the entry-level Seven 160.
It comes with a variety of aesthetic tweaks that give it more of a retro flavour including flared front wings, retro rear lights, a polished exhaust silencer and cream wheels with polished hub caps.
A choice of six paint jobs used by Caterham in 1966 and 1967 ─ Cream, Mellow Yellow, Regency Red, Camberwick Green, British Racing Green and Misty Blue ─ will be available, while the interior is finished with a wooden-rimmed steering wheel, wood effect dashboard and a classic instrument cluster.
Buyers can also expect Muirhead Scottish seat upholstery, which is hand-stitched in the 60s style and finished in a striking scarlet red, a fully carpeted luggage space and interior and a tacho with red yellow and red sectors ─ yet another nod to its heritage.
“It’s a car that has been built today, with all the benefits that modern engineering brings with it, but the essence of the swinging ‘60s and is the perfect precursor to our 60th-anniversary celebration in 2017,” Caterham Cars CEO Graham Macdonald said.
Caterham says the Seven Sprint will be available as a factory-built car only. Best to give the British manufacturer a buzz if you fancy one as a mere 60 are coming to the UK and Europe. Or, you know, buy a Lego version of the standard Seven instead.
