Clarkson uses ‘n-word’ in unaired Top Gear footage

The Mirror alleges Clarkson used N-word in previously unreleased Top Gear footage.

Jeremy Clarkson has found himself being accused of racism yet again, amid claims he used the N-word during an episode of Top Gear. The presenter, known for his controversial quips, is said to have recited the “eeny, meeny miny moe” nursery rhyme, incorporating the phrase “catch a n***er by his toe’” while filming the popular car-themed TV programme.

The Mirror has obtained footage of an unaired scene, in which Clarkson mutters the rhyme while choosing between between Toyota GT86 a Subaru BRZ sports cars. In another take, which is actually aired, Clarkson uses ‘catch a teacher by his toe’.

Clarkon has taken to Twitter to strongly deny the allegations, stating: “I did not use the n word. Never use it. The Mirror has gone way too far this time.”

Co-host James May has supported his colleague’s denial, tweeting,

“Jeremy Clarkson is not a racist. He is a monumental bellend and many other things, but not a racist. I wouldn’t work with one. #ThatIsAll.”

Unsurprisingly, many of Clarkson’s detractors have taken to social networks to demand action from the BBC. Some viewers have even suggested that this latest outburst could signal the end of Top Gear in its current format. Officials from No.10 Downing Street have encouraged the BBC to launch an investigation into the matter.

It’s not the first time Clarkson’s mouth has landed him in trouble. Remember the gay slur? Or the Asian slur? Or the Mexican slur? The Mirror has compiled a video of other gaffes by the presenter.

Though it could be argued his viewpoints are merely exaggerated for comic value, it will be difficult for the 54-year-old to wriggle out of this one.

What’s your take on the situation? Does Clarkson actually say it? And if he does, what do you think should happen? We welcome your comments below.

Update: Jeremy Clarkson has released a video statement “begging forgiveness” for his language. His satement in full is as follows:
