Design craze squishes and reverses your favourite cars

We can’t say we have been up at night wondering what a horizontally flipped Mini, Lamborghini or Smart Car looks like, nor have we been biting our nails in anticipation of seeing a squished-up Bugatti Veyron or Ford Mustang, but it turns out the results are really worth a gander.

These flipped cars have a certain hideous charm about them.

The backwards craze, which started on the Final Gear forums, involves using Photoshop to manipulate an image of a car. The technique usually involves either swapping the front with the back or reversing the top and bottom of the car to create something that is either utterly ridiculous or strangely impressive. Usually, it’s the former.

If flipping doesn’t tickle your fancy, the Final Gear Forums also offer some hilarious photoshops of squished cars. This phenomenon involves removing most of a car’s length so even the most ferocious supercar ends up looking like a caricature of itself. Think Pixar’s Cars — massive wheels, tiny doors and effortlessly charming toy-like aesthetics.

Many car designers will look at these and dry-heave but the sheer realism of the photoshopped images really has to be commended, even if some of the creations border on the upsetting. Feast your eyes on our personal favourites below and let us know your thoughts. If you don’t like any of them, make sure you head over to the lengthy Final Gear forums and place your requests to see a specific car flipped or squished.
