End of the line for Koenigsegg Agera RS production

Bad luck if you had your heart set on one of Koenigsegg’s most powerful creations. All examples of the Agera RS have sold out, marking the end of production.

Just 25 examples of the Swedish hypercar were being made and now all are accounted for, which is remarkable for a couple of reasons. For starters, each car costs US$1.65million, making it a bit of an investment.

Secondly, it was only debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show back in March, meaning it took only 10 months to sell out completely. Not bad for a company that in the supercar world is very young. Think 1994.

To be honest, if our other half was an oil baron we would have almost certainly been waiting in line for the Agera RS. As the more insane version of the Agera, it’s about as ‘hyper’ as hypercars get, which is why it won’t be long before we see instances of them being wrapped around trees.

For instance, its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 offers an astonishing 1,160hp, which gives it a 0-186mph time of 14 seconds. Because a 0-62mph time is just too puny for a car of this ilk. Side by side with the McLaren P1, the Swede makes the Brit look a bit puny.

Buyers from around the world put down orders, including from the US, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and, of course, old blighty.

Koenigsegg does have other cars in its range that may tempt buyers who missed out on the Agera RS, including the Regera. With production for the former, it may be time for the 1,800hp hybrid to replace it

That or the almost as insane 1,340hp One:1, which has one horsepower for every kilogram of weight. Either way, we’re happy because both are about as mental as cars get.

Koenigsegg boss Christian von Koenigsegg said: “The performance, road feel and responsiveness are truly amazing and the level of technical sophistication is second to none. It is a true pinnacle project that has been wholly embraced by our customers and friends.”
