Ford Mustang pics and specs revealed

The Ford Mustang has been a firm favourite among V8 enthusiasts, but the lack of availability in Europe and the UK meant its fans had two choices: buy a left-hand-drive import or move abroad. Luckily, the sixth-generation Mustang will change all that when it goes on sale in 2015.

With the 2015 Mustang, Ford hopes to deliver a product that has a brutish edge blended with a touch of sophistication and modern-day styling. Part of this is achieved with tri-bar tail lamps, a low roof height and a steeper incline for the rear window, all of which contribute to a much cleaner design.

Exact engine specs and performance figures remain in the hands of Ford. But we do know the new Mustang will use either a 2.3-litre Ecoboost that will dish out more than 305bhp and 407Nm of torque or a 5.0-litre V8 that produces 420bhp and 529Nm of torque, the former designed to coax eco-conscious UK buyers.

Ford has overhauled the suspension at the front and rear, including new springs, dampers, bushing and revised geometry as well as a new perimeter subframe to improve stiffness, while the new MacPherson strut system provides space for larger, more powerful brakes. 19-inch wheels come as standard.

Other standard features include launch control and torque vectoring, a system for providing power to the wheel that needs it most to keep the car under control.

Ford SYNC with Voice Control and Touchscreen will keep drivers entertained and informed, with a 12-speaker sound system and an 8-inch display helping content look and sound good. The interior is said to be roomier than its predecessor’s.

“From day one, we knew if we were going to build a new Mustang, we had to do it right,” said Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak. “We built a new Mustang from the ground up that is fast, great-looking, refined and efficient, without losing any of the raw appeal that people around the world have associated with Mustang for decades.”

April 17, 2014 will mark 50 years since the first Mustang rolled off the production in America. It has since sold 9 million cars.

A UK price and release date is yet to be confirmed.
