A 1967 Shelby Mustang that served as one of the ‘hero cars’ in the petrolhead favourite Gone in Seconds will soon go to auction.
The movie from 2000 featured Nicholas Cage, Giovanni Ribisi and Angelina Jolie, but the biggest star was the truly mesmerising 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 known as ‘Eleanor’, which you will be able to bid for in December.
Cinema Vehicle Services built eleven modified Shelby Mustangs for the film but only three of them were used for the scenes with actors. Yes, that means Angelina Jolie has ridden in this car, which is numbered 7 in the series.
One of the other halo cars fetched US$1 million at auction in May 2013 – way above the predicted figure of US$300,000 – so you will need to dig especially deep for what is quite honestly a petrolhead’s dream machine.
At least you’re getting a lot for your money. It packs an enormous naturally aspirated Ford Racing 351 CI crate V8 engine for that authentic American muscle experience and a Holley 700 CFM 4-barrel carburetor, while a four-speed manual transmission takes care of the gears.
The Eleanor Mustang also has disc brakes all round (unlike the 60s car), a racing spec radiator and revised suspension to make it better in the corners. 17-inch ‘Schmidt’ alloy wheels and a unique body kit, meanwhile, set it apart from other Mustangs of that era. A letter of authenticity from Cinema Vehicle Services founder Ray Claridge completes the package.

An 850bhp version of the modern-day GT500 was built to celebrate the life and work of Shelby founder Carroll Shelby, who died in August 2012 at the age of 89.
