While it may be perfectly legal to have sex in a car, one couple from the US could have saved themselves a trip to the hospital and a metric ton of embarrassment if they had waited until they got home for some après-Valentine’s Day loving.
30-year-old Asia Walker was driving in broad daylight down Continental Drive near Daytona Beach, Florida, when she decided to – according to a state trooper – get “amorous with her boyfriend”. With her eyes likely focussed on something long and straight but obviously not the road, she ploughed the car through two rooms of a home in Daytona, causing immense damage to the property and her 2007 Hyundai.
Sgt Kim Montes, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, told an NBC news reporter (and, impressively, without even smirking) “She told the investigating trooper that she and her boyfriend in the car were getting a little amorous. The trooper suspects that’s probably why she lost control of the vehicle.”
Fortunately for the passionate couple, nobody was seriously hurt as the beach home had been unoccupied since August of last year due to the owner passing away, although Walker was hit by debris and had to visit the hospital for treatment. The boyfriend, who was unsurprisingly also not concentrating on their direction of travel, emerged unscathed ─ unless you count the mental trauma of being driven through a couple of brick walls.
It isn’t clear how fast the couple was travelling nor do we know exactly what the “amorous” activity was (guesses on a postcard) but reports claim the sheer force of the crash not only destroyed two room, but also caused a window in a separate part of the property to shatter. And people say love doesn’t hurt.
To those amongst you pondering a bit of in-car loving, we would suggest you at least park up first and put the handbrake on, or wait until one of those self-driving cars becomes available. Failing that, just go home first.
