Police in the US state of Ohio have a terrible mess on their hands. Officers are in hot pursuit of a man who likes to do his business on cars.
The anonymous man – known as the ‘bowel movement bandit’ – has allegedly pooped on 19 parked cars on driveways since May 2012, but has so far managed to do a number on police.
He is said to strike between 5:30 and 6am in the Akron area between Hancock Avenue, Waterloo Road, Route 93 and Kenmoore Road and has even targeted children’s toys left out in the front gardens of residents.
“My mother-in-law walked out of our house one day, and the kids’ front-yard slide had to be sanitized,” resident Rob Brunson told Cleveland news channel WKYC.
It seems he may have pushed his luck one too many times, though, as he was captured on film by a resident who setup a camera to catch the person in the act, having endured faeces on her car for the seventh time.
One victim said his car had been attacked six times, with fecal matter smeared on the bonnet, door handles, mirrors and windscreen. Others said they thought a dog was responsible for the random attacks.
The man, believed by police to be mentally ill (or maybe just annoyed at his neighbours), could face charges for misdemeanor criminal mischief or criminal damages if caught.
The Akron police force is appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the photo to come forward. So far a dozen tips have been received, but no one has been able to identify the man.
Akron police Lt. Rick Edwards said in a news report: “The photo shows this guy bent over on the hood, pants to ankles defecating on the car. We need to know who this person is.”
