If you have been gagging to see proper pictures of the new Jaguar F-Type then step this way, open your gullet and prepare to have that thirst well and truly quenched. Jaguar has unveiled the car for the first time in its final non-camouflaged form at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and by God it’s a thing of beauty.

We’re going to pretend for a second that you’re still reading this text and haven’t scrolled down to the bottom of the page to gorge on F-Type images. We’ll also pretend you’re blind and can’t see for yourself that the final car features the exact same front, side and rear as the gorgeous Jaguar C-X16 concept car unveiled in 2011.

The only real difference, as you’re probably aware, is the fact this two-seater F-Type trades its metal lid for a convertible power-folding hood.

Jaguar is now taking orders for the F-Type, with prices starting from £58,500 in the UK. Three models are available — F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type V8 S. The first two will use Jag’s new 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine in 340PS and 380PS outputs, while the latter will use the company’s 5-litre V8, here tuned to produce 495PS.

All models will use Jaguar’s Quickshift transmission, which features eight closely-spaced gears for a sportier feel. A Dynamic Launch control feature, available on the F-Type S model, helps the car accelerate more efficiently and aggressively from a standstill.

The entry-level F-Type will cover 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and hit 161mph, while the F-Type S is slightly quicker, reaching 60mph in 4.9 seconds before maxing out at 171mph. The F-Type V8 S is the pick of the bunch, however, capable of 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 186mph.

Jaguar says the F-Type will stand out from the competition with ultra-precise handling that makes it ‘feel alive’. Its aluminium architecture should ensure a light but stiff construction, while an integrated spoiler deploys at speed to add up to 120kg of downforce.

We’re sure you’ll agree this is one car that will give rivals such as the Porsche Boxster, and even the 911, a real run for their money. The Standard F-Type will be available on the road for £58,500. The F-Type S and F-Type V8 S will retail for £67,500 and £79,950 respectively.
