Lamborghini Huracán is the Gallardo replacement

New pictures of the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 have been revealed.

Forget all the spy shots and the alleged Cabrera name – we can finally show you what will replace the long-serving Lamborghini Gallardo. Feast your eyes on the Huracán LP610-4.

Like the Gallardo and Murcielago, the Huracán gets its name from the world of bullfighting as well as the Spanish word for Hurricane and a Mayan god. A wise choice, then, for a car that combines a thunderous 610hp, 560Nm 5.2-litre V10 with a carbon fibre and aluminium body that weighs just 1,422kg.

Thanks to 2.33kg per horsepower, four-wheel drive and a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission, the Huracan can whip up a storm in next to no time. 0 to 62mph takes 3.2 seconds and 0 to 124mph 9.9 seconds. The top speed of 202mph is also impressive.

What’s the fuel economy you might concievably ask? Well it’s not great, but Stop & Start technology and that lighter body does bring the CO2 emissions down to a more respectable 290g/km, while achieving consumption of 23mpg, if you were wondering.

Three driving modes – Strada, Sport and Corsa – allow you to adjust the behaviour of the Huracan using a button on the steering wheel, with each mode having an effect on the gearbox, engine, sound, four-wheel drive system and electronic stability control.

Carbon-ceramic brakes help you stop fast and the optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering variable steering ratio system allows yet more customisation to suit your driving, with three different settings available.

LED headlamps and LED technology throughout the car marks a first in the segment, according to Lamborghini.

Step inside and you will see a 12.3-inch instrument panel that deals with your rev counter, navigation and other infotainment functionality.

Styling cues from the Gallardo are obvious, but there’s also a bit of the Reventon and Aventador in there, making it a very sleek, stylish beast but one that is, dare we say it, a little bit more mature. Watch out, Ferrari.

Spring 2014 is when first deliveries are planned. No word on a price, but you know all that Italian craftsmanship won’t come cheap.

The last Gallardo recently rolled off the production line. It was number 14,022.
