If the current Land Rover Discovery is too rugged for you, and the forthcoming Land Rover DC100 Discovery concept car is too delicate then you’re in luck. Land Rover has created a Defender XTech Special Edition that adds a touch of bling to the current Defender’s otherwise craggy personality.
The XTech stands out mainly because of its Orkney Grey or Nara Bronze paintwork and a veritable shedload of gloss black detailing. It comes with a contrasting Santorini Black roof, black headlamp surrounds, black wheel arches, plus glossy black ‘Land Rover’ lettering on the bonnet. Oh, and it rides on gloss black Saw Tooth 16-inch alloy wheels.
Elsewhere on the exterior, the XTech has been bestowed with a ‘DEFENDER’ decal above the rear LED lights — so people in Nissan Qashqais know not to mess. It also features a body-coloured grille and a rear step bumper assembly to help you get inside without flashing your own undercarriage.
Inside, there’s yet more black. Land Rover has supplied a pure ebony part-leather interior with contrasting stitching. There’s a Land Rover logo embossed on the front headrests and carpet mats with the Defender logo woven in. The central switch panel, meanwhile, is finished in the same paint finish as the exterior.
The XTech Special Edition Defender is available in 90 Hard Top form or the longer 110 Utility Wagon body style. Both versions chug along courtesy of a 2.2-litre diesel engine with a six-speed manual gearbox and come with air con, electronic traction control, anti-lock brakes, central locking and heated seats and windscreen. It goes on sale in July for a starting price of £27,995.
