Read on, British supercar fans. McLaren will unveil a new supercar at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March known as the 675LT.
The McLaren 675LT is a ‘modern-day interpretation’ of the F1 GTR Longtail hence the LT part of the name. 675, meanwhile, refers to the PS output, which when converted to bhp gives you 666 – a not-so-subtle reference to the devil (unless you subscribe to the 616 theory).
The 657LT is a track focussed version of the 650S but can be driven on the road, making a trip to the supermarket entirely feasible but perhaps not recommended given it will probably hug the road.
Optimised aerodynamics, increased downforce, weight reduction and improved ‘driver engagement’ should make it faster in just about every way, which it will need to be when the competition includes the Ferrari 458 Speciale, Lamborghini Murcielago Super Veloce and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Bit of history for you: The F1 GTR was nicknamed the ‘Longtail’ because of its stretched silhouette compared with the standard McLaren F1.
The McLaren 675LT – which will be offered in coupe form only – joins the 650S (reviewed here), P1 hypercar and the Asia-only 625C in the British manufacturer’s range. Deliveries are expected later in 2015.
McLaren has promised it will share ‘startling’ performance figures in the weeks running up to the Geneva unveiling. In the meantime, watch one of its wheels spin in slow-motion because you can.
