McLaren MSO Carbon Series LT is the 675LT you have been dreaming of

McLaren seems to have solved the problem of how it could improve its 675LT supercar because it has announced a stealthy carbon fibre version.

The McLaren MSO Carbon Series LT is the work of McLaren Special Operations and features a further 40 body panels made from carbon fibre over the standard car, all of which are coated with a unique gloss.

Just 25 examples will be built and all 25 have been accounted for, thanks to requests from McLaren customers who saw the carbon fibre version of the McLaren P1 hypercar on display at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

New areas previously lacking in carbon fibre include the retractable roof tonneau, A-pillars, bonnet, side blades, complete front and rear wings and even the fuel filler cap. McLaren has also added GT3-inspired functional louvres.

Those who missed out on buying the carbon fibre 675LT will be sad to know a retrofit option is unavailable. This is because of the ‘significant additional development work by the team of MSO craftsmen’, McLaren said.

The benefits of using even more carbon fibre beyond aesthetics are currently unclear, but the British manufacturer said performance figures are the same as the standard 675LT. That means 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, 675PS (666bhp), 0-124mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 203mph.

The original 675LT – a car we gave five stars – is one of three McLarens to wear the LT badge, which is short for ‘Longtail’. The name was revived after nearly 20 years.

Production of the special edition 675LT is scheduled to start in the autumn and first deliveries should reach their lucky owners before 2016 is done and dusted.

As for how much customers paid? Far beyond the standard car’s £259,500 price tag, that’s for sure.
