Mercedes-AMG GT S video review: A Porsche 911 killer?

Rory Reid takes the Mercedes AMG-GT S for a spin around Goodwood and finds it to be a worthy relative of the SLS, which gives the Porsche 911 something to worry about.

Mercedes has a number of options for those who want a supremely quick car and king of them all is the AMG GT, a two-seater Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type rival that can and will melt your face.

It comes in two forms, a 462hp GT version and the 510hp GT S we had the pleasure of driving around the Goodwood circuit. The latter has 650Nm of torque and a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 193mph.

Unfortunately there was little chance to steal away the AMG GT for a trip to the shops, but if we had there would be 350 litres of boot space, which is not that far off a hatchback. Not only that, the trip would be fairly cheap given its fuel economy figure of 30.mpg and CO2 emissions of 216g/km.

Admittedly the lack of gullwing doors like you had on the SLS AMG is a big shame, but this is still a car that will get you oodles of attention, especially when you rev the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8. The low grumble is surprisingly addictive for a turbocharged lump.

So is it any good? Rory goes as far to say this is one of his favourite cars right now. Watch the video to find out why and be sure to subscribe and like the video.
