Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is a BMW X4 rival

A price and full UK specs have been released for the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe crossover, a BMW X4 equivalent and the GLE Coupe’s smaller sibling.

Only a year and a few months ago the concept was revealed and already UK orders are open for the Mercedes GLC Coupe, which attempts to marry the practicality of an SUV with the styling of a coupe.

Two models are available at launch, the first of which is the entry-level GLC 220 d and its 170hp 2.1-litre diesel. Merc says to expect up to 56.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 131g/km.

Above that is the GLC 250 d, which also has a 2.1-litre diesel but a higher output of 204hp without affecting its fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Both engines are mated to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic as standard.

Accompanying the choice of two engine outputs are two trim levels: Sport and AMG Line. Sport features Garmin Map Pilot navigation, Active Park Assist, Artico upholstery in black or beige, keyless start, reversing camera, sports suspension, heated front seats.

Other standard equipment includes an electrically-operated tailgate, LED performance headlights and a mirror package consisting of electrically-operated and automatically dimming mirrors.

Unique to the she Sport is a black ash wood interior trim, 18-inch alloys and a diamond grille with black-painted pins.

AMG Line adds an AMG sports steering wheel, brushed sports pedals, black roof lining, Artico leather in black or Cranberry Red, AMG bodystyling, 19-inch five-twin-spoke alloys and a diamond grille with chrome pins.

Both trim levels can be bolstered with the £1,495 Premium package, which includes ambient lighting, sliding glass sunroof, Keyless-Go comfort package and memory package. Premium Plus, meanwhile, costs £2,795 and adds the Comand Infotainment system and 13-speaker Burmester package.

For a touch more safety, there’s also a Driving Assistance Package that includes Active Blind Sport Assist, Active Lane-keeping Assist, Pre-Safe Plus and Pre-safe Brake with pedestrian detection, all for £1,695.

Unique to the AMG Line is the £495 Night Package, which adds black exterior mirrors, 19-inch alloy wheels with a bicolour design, front apron with trim in high-gloss black and a rear apron with diffuser, also in high-gloss black.

First deliveries are expected to begin in September 2016. Prices start from £40,580 for the GLC 220 d Sport, rising to £43,245 for the GLC 250 d AMG Line.
