Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept is ludicrous, long and lovely

Rappers, stop what you’re doing and get an eyeful of this bad boy, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept.

Unveiled last week at the Monterey car week, Merc busted out an all-new ‘vision’ of what could become of its Maybach brand. It’s sporty, sleek and enormous, measuring nearly six metres in length, with enough attitude to surely dominate rap videos for decades to come.

Those curves are influenced by the 1930s Mercedes SSK and 540K – just check out how the rear bodywork swoops well beyond the rear axle. The doors, meanwhile, borrow inspiration from the be-winged 300SL.

“Our sensational Coupé represents the ultimate in contemporary luxury. It is hot and cool,” reckons Daimler AG’s design chief Professor Gorden Wagener. “With its intelligent appeal and reduced, technoid look, it perfectly embodies our design philosophy of sensual purity and our pursuit of aerodynamic efficiency.”

Sure thing, buddy.

Inside, the Maybach 6 is as luxurious as you’d expect. It may only have space for one rapper and a solitary homie, but goodness what a cabin. Curvy seats that somehow flow up the doors and towards the dashboard, a minimalist user interface. Oh, and what looks like an augmented reality-style windscreen.

Power comes from a battery pack under the floor, driving electric motors on each wheel. Output is claimed to be 750bhp in total, which is enough for a 0-62mph time of under four seconds, and a total range of 200 miles – if driven sensibly.

The car can be recharged wirelessly via an electromagnetic field, and quick-charing abilities will cram enough power into the batteries to deliver 65 miles of driving after just five minutes. Like it? We do. Let us know what you think.
