Mother jailed after forcing kids to ride home on bonnet

A mother has been jailed after forcing four children to ride on a car bonnet.

A mother forced four children to ride home on the outside of her car. Kisha Young reportedly asked four children to climb aboard the bonnet and in the boot of the car after a swimming lesson. She said she didn’t want the children to get the car seats wet during the one-minute journey home.

The woman was allegedly drunk when she picked the four kids up from Creekside Community Pool. Unsurprisingly, the children were injured when Young rounded a corner and threw them from the vehicle.

One child, a 12-year-old girl, is still in hospital after sustaining a serious head injury. The mother of that child was sat in the passenger seat at the time of the accident. The other children needed treatment for gravel scrapes and bruising.

Witnesses to the incident said Young didn’t even realise what she’d done until she’d pulled the car up at the end of the road. Holly Powell said, “One [child] was laying on the floor, with another sitting next to her… she had blood on her shirt. Then there was two kids that had road burns that were walking up and down the street.”

The 39-year-old driver was arrested by police on suspicion of ‘intoxication assault’, though further charges are likely to be brought against Young and her 31-year-old passenger.

Earlier this year, a drunk mother failed to notice her one-year-old child had fallen from the car at a set of traffic lights.
