Official photos of the new Hyundai i10 have been released on the internet. Rejoice. Go on, we’ll wait.
The South Korean city car has had a bit of a growth spurt. Hyundai says the new i10, which will be shown off properly at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show, is 80mm longer, 65mm wider and 50mm lower than the old car.
The car is based on a new platform, which will offer a 5mm longer wheelbase (and potentially more leg room) as well as a ten per cent increase in boot space, up to 252 litres (the VW Up has 251 litres).
There’s also a slightly revised look to the exterior of the car that Hyundai says is part of a ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language ─ whatever that means. All we know is it looks a tad easier on the eye.
Hyundai is yet to release any images of the interior but we’re predicting liberal use of plastics, although Hyundai reckons it’ll also use “high quality materials on key surfaces” – i.e. the bits motoring journalists tend to poke (dashboard etc.).
Although there’s no official word on engines, Hyundai has hinted towards updated versions of the current 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre three-cylinder units, which will hopefully be a tad more frugal and perhaps a bit less pedestrian.
The current Hyundai i10 can be yours for less than £10,000, depending on the trim level and how pimp you want the options list to be.
It’s highly likely the new i10 will be similarly priced..
