Nissan GT-R Nismo confirmed

The Nissan GT-R is hardly slow. It’ll quite happily launch itself from 0-62mph in under four seconds, maxes out at just shy of 200mph and sticks to curves like butter on on a fat man’s hips. Yet Nissan has gone in search of yet more performance with a beefed up GT-R Nismo that promises to be faster still.

The GT-R Nismo is expected not only to be “the ultimate GT-R for the road,” but also the flagship car for Nismo, Nissan’s motorsport brand. The Nismo name will be marketed aggressively on a global scale with the GT-R Nismo being the halo product in the range, so there’s little doubt the company will lavish the thing with all the attention it requires in order to be a success.

No performance figures have been issued, but it would be sensible to assume this model will go like stink off stink, competing with the stripped down, beefed up Porsche 911 GT3. We expect it’ll be a natural evolution of the Nissan GT-R Track Pack, which featured lighter wheels, racier suspension and improved brakes.

The GT-R Nismo will join the Juke Nismo and the 370Z Nismo, both of which hvae already been confirmed for pronduction.

“Nismo will bring new excitement to the Nissan portfolio with a broader range of affordable and innovative performance models for more markets and more people,” commented Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. “Whether it’s a small car or a sports car, if it’s wearing the Nismo badge it offers something special – quality, functionality, and efficiency, with Nismo’s distinctive styling, sporty handling and dynamic performance capabilities.”

“It would be unthinkable for us to develop a range of Nismo road cars without including the GT-R,” continued Mr. Ghosn. “The standard road car is a global supercar and the GT-R’s performance on track reflects the passion and talents of the Nismo team. The GT-R Nismo will be special and I can’t wait to drive it.”

That’s make several of. More on this as we get it.
