Nissan Pulsar gets the Nismo treatment

The hot new Pulsar Nismo concept has taken the stand at the Paris Motor Show 2014. Here’s why you should care.

The all-new Nissan Pulsar – a rival to the Ford Focus and Kia Cee’d – certainly hits the mark where comfort is concerned, but doesn’t quite satisfy those with a performance itch. Luckily for petrolheads, Nissan has given it the Nismo treatment.

The Pulsar Nismo Concept features a far bolder design than the standard model. Styling highlights include a devilish red Nismo ‘Layered Double Wing’ sat below the V-shaped grille south of larger, boxier air intakes. There’s also deeper side skirts, flared wheel arches and a lower ride height.

A motorsport-inspired carbon fibre spoiler and central twin exhaust outlets at the rear help give the Pulsar Nismo emphasise the meatier stance.

The red is carried into the brake callipers, which rest behind 19-inch tyres, and on the door mirrors. Yet more sporty red can be found in the cabin, which includes a three-spoke steering wheel.

We’ve no idea what sort of engine the Pulsar Concept will use, but the standard 2014 Pulsar will adopt a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with around 187bhp of poke, so the Pulsar Nismo Concept will undoubtedly build on that.

Track-refined suspension, a lower ride height and revised spring and damper settings are designed to improve handling beyond the standard car.

Whether the souped-up Pulsar go on sale is unconfirmed at present, but Nissan has stated it is ‘committed to developing its Nismo line-up’ – so don’t be surprised to see it join the likes of the 370Z and GT-R Nismo in the future.
