Man dies after being hit by a police car in Hastings, East Sussex.
A pedestrian was hit and killed by a police car responding to a call in Hastings, East Sussex. The accident happened on the A259 on March 12th, 2014. Police were said to be invesigating a report about a car being driven by a banned motorist.
The crash has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Police said they would release more details as soon as possible.
Sussex Police released a statement, which said: “At 7:20pm on Wednesday, March 12 a police car was in a collision with a pedestrian on the A259, White Rock in Hastings. The pedestrian, believed to be a local man in his 40s, tragically died at the scene shortly afterwards, despite the efforts of police officers and paramedics to save him.”
The statement went on: “The officers were responding to a report that a car driven by a disqualified driver had been seen in the area. That car has not yet been traced. The full circumstances of the incident have yet to be established and it will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.”
The man has not yet been identified, but two bouquets of flowers have been left at the accident scene. One note on one boquets: “James, from Clive, Vix, Chloe, Ryan, Jonah.”
Witnesses to the accident should call Sussex Police on 101 or email them on collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting Operation Marshside.
