Porsche Macan is a baby Cayenne

Porsche has given the Macan compact SUV a website of its own with a few teaser images and tasty morsels of information ahead of its official unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Not wanting to give too much away, the pictures comprise silhouettes, paparazzi shots of the prototype and the original concept images revealed back in early 2012.

It looks like the Macan borrows a number of design cues from its bigger, uglier Cayenne brother but is more macho and less ‘school run mum’, thanks to a lower profile, arch-filling alloy wheels and shifty-looking rear lights.

While there’s nothing particularly exciting to go on in terms of details, it’s enough to give competitors like the Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA and the Range Rover Evoque a glimpse of what they will have to contend with when it arrives sometime in 2014.

“We’ve built what we always build: a Sports Car,” Porsche said on its website. “Five doors, five seats and yet intimate with the road; boasting plenty of space for hobbies, leisure and sport. But no room for compromise. Compact, concentrated and intensive, but still powerful. Practical but never ordinary.”

The Macan will use the same platform as the soon-to-be-revealed Audi Q5 and will likely come with a choice of four and a six-cylinder engines.

Early price estimates suggest it’ll retail for somewhere in the region of £35,000.

The Los Angeles Auto Show runs from November 22nd to December 1st 2013. Pay Recombu Cars a visit around that time if you want to know all the Macan specs and pricing details. Until then, scroll on down for the images.
