Recombu Awards 2014: Best Family Car

Recombu has announced the winner of its Best Family Car 2014 award. Here’s which car took home the honours and why.

The Recombu Awards 2014 have been and gone, which is more than can be said for our hangovers. We handed out three trophies to the cars that really stood out this year at a swanky event in Mayfair, London. Here’s which car won.

The family car category is fairly open-ended, but then not all families are created equal. Our shortlist includes an all-electric saloon, the tried and tested Ford Focus and its even more practical B-Max sibling, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the seventh-generation VW Golf.

Newer entrants included the Citroen Cactus with its funky plastic cladding on the doors, Kia’s Soul, the BMW i3 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Golf SV.

After taking into consideration value for money, styling, running costs, technology, interior design and many other factors, the Nissan Qashqai emerged victorious.

For starters, the 2014 Qashqai compact crossover is well equipped, even if you opt for the entry-level Visia model. It looks great, too. What really stands out, though, is its practicality and how well it drives.

Factor in impressive family aspects such as the 430-litre boot, off-roading capabilities, ample interior space and frugal engines that make it cheap to run and you have a car that ultimately edges out its rivals in the category.

Winner: Nissan Qashqai
