Renault Megane GT 220 video review: Rapid, not tepid

A watered down version of the Renaultsport 275 sounds like a bad idea, right? Actually, no. Ben Griffin finds the Megane GT 220 is a surprisingly talented hot-hatch in his video review.

Glance at the spec sheet for the Megane GT 220 and you would probably dismiss it. Which would be a crying shame because the latest addition to the Renault hatchback stable is, quite honestly, bags of fun.

It looks the part and, once you find the rev sweet spot, has you grinning much more strongly than its 0 to 62mph time of 7.5 seconds would suggest. A lot of it is to do with the wonderful engine note, but the style and firm Renaultsport-esque ride play a big role in its sporty credentials.

Really, value is where it falls down if you go on the recommended retail price of £24,245 for the Coupe. That’s about £2,000 more expensive than a Focus ST, which is more powerful and practical – although that means the Frenchie will likely be less common. For some, a touch of exclusivity might be all it takes when choosing between the two.
