When the Seat Leon Cupra 280 became the first front-wheel drive car to lap the Nürburgring in less than eight minutes, ripping the record from Renault, it did so with a Performance Pack unavailable to UK customers.
Well, now you can slap the Leon Cupra 280 with a Sub8 Performance Pack option for a cool £2,025, giving you specially designed 19-inch alloys in either black or orange, 30mm larger brakes (370mm discs) for the standard Brembo calipers to grab and body coloured side skirts.
Spend an extra £460 and each corner can be covered by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. Seat was keen to point out the same upgrade on the Megane RenaultSport 275 Trophy-R costs an extra £540.
Seat also took the time to mention its £500 Cupra exterior colour packs: Black-Line and White-Line. The options add their respective colour to the door mirrors, front grille surround, tailgate lettering and 19-inch alloy wheels in addition to a black spoiler. Orange-Line will be added in December 2014.
Last but not least is the option of black Alcantara bucket seats with white accents and an embossed Cupra logo for £1,250. The price also includes the Winter Pack comprised heated front seats and headlight washers with heated front washer nozzles.
The Seat Leon Cupra 280 completed a lap of the legendary ‘Green Hell’ Nordschleife circuit in 7:58.4 seconds in March 2014, bettering the Megane RS Trophy’s 8:07.97. Then in June 2014 Renault rolled out the Megane RenaultSport 275, which now holds with record at 7:54.
A 2.0-litre turbo with 271bhp and 266lb/ft (360Nm) of torque powers the record-holding Renault. Meanwhile the Cupra 280 has 280PS (276bhp) and 258lb/ft (350Nm) of torque. Both cars can hit 0 to 62mph in less than six seconds and offer pretty remarkable fuel economy.
A new Cupra 280 will set you back from £27,240 with a manual gearbox.
