Kia has revealed full specs and UK pricing for the fourth-generation Sportage crossover, which will go on sale from the 5th of February 2016.
The new Kia Sportage is 40mm longer than its predecessor, has a 30mm longer wheelbase and the same height and width. Its drag-coefficient has dropped from 0.35 to 0.33Cd, making it more better at cutting through the air.
That change in wheelbase length has improved leg and headroom by 16mm, while the boot is 26 litres larger, at 491 litres, rising to 1,480 with the rear seats folded down.
A few styling revisions aim to make the new Sportage a bit more sporty, including Kia’s tiger nose main grille, elongated headlamps and an aerodynamic diffuser on the rear.
Four engines will power the new Sportage, including the new 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol, which manages 37.7mpg and 175/km of CO2 when mated to the new seven-speed 7DCT automatic. 0-60mph takes 8.8 seconds, making it the fastest of the range.
Then there’s the popular 1.7-litre CRDi diesel, which is now 7mpg more efficient (61.4mpg) and an improvement of 16g/km of CO2 (119g/km). Top speed is 109mph, while 0-60mph comes and goes in 11.1 seconds.
The more powerful 2.0-litre diesel is 29g/km more efficient in its 134bhp guise and 23g/km more efficient with 182bhp. Top speed and 0-60mph for the latter output are 125mph and 9.2 seconds, respectively.
Besides the 7DCT reserved solely for the GT-Line trim level, buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and six-speed auto.
Speaking of trim levels, a numbers system ranging from grade ‘1’ to ‘4’ indicates how much standard equipment you get, with 1 at the bottom and 4 just below First Edition.
Grade 1 includes 16-inch alloys, all-round disc brakes, LED daytime running lamps, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and AUX ports, smart black upholstery and DAB digital radio to name a few things. Only grade 1 lacks a seven or eight-inch touchscreen navigation system with full European mapping and road information.
Grade 4, meanwhile, adds bi-xenon adaptive headlights, front parking sensors, smart key entry system, panoramic sunroof, LED rear combination lamps, 10-way power adjustable driver seat, eight-way adjustable front passenger seat with ventilation, heated steering wheel, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Protection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
First Edition comes with Smart Parking Assist, wireless mobile phone charger, metallic paint in either Fusion White or Phantom Black, ‘First Edition’ decals and stone grey two-tone leather upholstery on top of the other trim level equipment.
In between grade 2 and 3 sits GT-Line, a trim level Kia says provides ‘the most dynamic version’ of the new Sportage. It adds 19-inch alloys, LED rear combination lamps, front parking sensors, dual exhausts, black leather upholstery and a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster.
Every new Sportage comes with Kia’s seven-year or 100,000 mile warranty. Prices start from £17,995 for the 1.6GDi six-speed manual 1, rising to £31,645 for the 2.0 CRDi six-speed auto First Edition.
