This is what the new Subaru Impreza could look like

2015 Tokyo Motor Show: Subaru has revealed a five-door concept Impreza that may provide a glimpse of what to expect from the next-generation car.

Subaru says the Impreza 5-door Concept ‘hints’ at what future versions of the car and future models may look like, but avoided going into specifics.

The concept has been designed to ‘achieve a higher level of aerodynamic performance while blending form with function’. Its luminous silver paintjob was chosen to add a ‘hint of lustre’ to the lines of the car, while its wide and low stance hints at what Subaru calls an ‘innate stability’ the brand is known for.

At the front are modern interpretations of the ‘hawk-eye’ headlights synonymous with the manufacturer, while a hexagonal grille is said to further emphasise Subaru’s identity.

Speaking of the lights, Subaru has designed the front and rear combination lights to give it a more powerful and modern look. Meanwhile the compact silhouette, flared wheel arches and sharp lines are said to provide a touch of sportiness.

There’s only one engine offered in the Impreza in the UK and it’s a 112bhp naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre so we can expect a brand new engine to make it more desirable. Two-wheel drive is also likely to feature in addition to the usual four-wheel drive.

Subaru is a well-known manufacturer but in recent years its image has gone a bit stale and so have the cars. The Vauxhall Astra rival could just be the ticket in making the brand cool once more when it reaches production, most likely sometime in 2016 or 2017.
