Vauxhall Adam Rocks our world

Folding canvas roof and rugged crossover looks bestowed upon the Vauxhall Adam.

If a Vauxhall Adam got itself lost in the wilderness and had to fend for itself, the Adam Rocks is what you would see return. The new model, which will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, has been given a tougher appearance and greater ground clearance to help it battle the great outdoors.

The Vauxhall Adam Rocks should be able to go where no Adam has been before, thanks to chunky anthracite protective cladding around the bottom of the car, 15mm higher chassis to improve ground clearance and chunkier 17- or 18-inch wheels.

New additions over the standard Adam include silver skid plates, new exterior paintjobs to choose from (such as the ‘Goldbusters’ colour pictured below), new chrome exhaust and LED daytime running lights as standard.

A first for the Adam range is a full-length electric folding canvas roof, which is comprised three-layers to help insulate sound and keep the elements out. A choice of three roof colours – Black, Sweet Coffee and Light Oak – is available. Boot space and body stiffness is said to be unaffected because of the way the roof folds back behind the C-pillars.

Three engines in five power outputs form the basis of the Vauxhall Adam range. Vauxhall’s new 1.0-litre Ecotec Direct Injection Turbo three-cylinder is the flagship, offering either 115PS (113bhp) and 166Nm (122lb/ft) of torque or 90PS (89bhp). Alternatively there’s the option of a 70PS (69bhp) 1.2-litre and a 87 (86bhp) and 100PS (99bhp) 1.4-litre.

Vauxhall says the dampers, springs, rear suspension geometry and steering have all either been modified or re-tuned – presumably so the Adam Rocks is a better performer off the beaten track.

The Vauxhall Adam Rocks comes with two interior trim designs, one of which is taken directly from the Adam Rocks concept car revealed in 2013, while the other has dark brown seats and a black cabin with bright blue stitching.

Smartphone integration comes in the form of Vauxhall’s Intelilink infotainment system, which adds USB and Bluetooth connectivity, seven speakers and a 7-inch touchscreen display for £275. Apps, including TuneIn radio, can be downloaded.

While no official price has been given, we do know the Vauxhall Adam Rocks will be on sale in the Summer. Check it out below.
