Vauxhall has turned its popular Insignia into a more rugged beast in a bid to challenge the likes of the Audi A6 Allroad and the VW Passat Alltrack.
Based on the Insignia Sports Tourer, the Insignia Country Tourer has been given a number of tweaks to help it live up to its name. It has all-wheel drive, improved ground clearance, rugged styling and protective cladding on the front and rear bumpers ─ just what you need for jaunts out into the sticks.
Power comes from a choice of two engines, a 163PS (161bhp) 2.0CDTi with start/stop technology and a faster 195PS (192bhp) diesel BiTurbo with 295lb/ft of torque. The former engine can come equipped with 6-speed automatic or manual transmissions, while the latter is limited to an automatic.
Two trim levels will be available, Country Tourer and Country Tourer Nav. As you can probably guess, the more expensive trim level includes navigation via an 8-inch colour touchscreen, plus a multi-function touch-pad controller and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster for displaying useful stuff such as fuel level.
Standard equipment on both models includes bi-xenon adaptive headlights, LED tail lights, power tailgate and parking sensors at the front and rear.
The Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer will retail for between £25,349 and £29,709 depending on spec, with Country Tourer Nav trim costing between £26,499 and £30,859.

First deliveries are expected to arrive from January 2014.
