Watch Clarkson, Hammond and May try to name their new Amazon Prime motoring show

Ex-Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have released a video of them brainstorming a name for their new motoring show – and it doesn’t go well.

The video, released by Amazon Video UK on YouTube, shows the trio attempting to finally name their new show, which will be available to Amazon Prime customers.

One of the most popular names for the show has been Gear Knobs, but Clarkson categorically said this was not a possibility. After tweeting a link to the video, he added: “Thanks for your suggestions. But be aware: for legal reasons, we cannot use a name with the word ‘gear’ in it.”

“How long can we keep calling currently unnamed TV show,” Clarkson asks in the video. As per usual, he is less than helpful, with him suggesting Genesis album titles. Hammond’s ‘AutoMates’ and ‘Tripod’ are equally terrible.

After getting absolutely nowhere, the video ends with the hashtag: “TheStillVeryMuchUntitledClarksonHammondMayAmazonPrimeShowComingAutumn2016.”

The first and previous teaser for Amazon’s new show saw the trio cruising around Cobham in Surrey in an open-top Mercedes with gigantic wheels, a car the presenter describes in his trademark style as “brilliant” ─ an opinion not shared by his co-presenters.

Clarkson was forced to leave Top Gear – a show he saved with the help of executive producer Andy Wilman (who is now on the Amazon show) – after a ‘fracas’ with producer Oison Tymon. He later paid damages of £100,000 to Tymon and apologised profusely.

Top Gear recently released its trailer for the revamped Top Gear show, which kicks off in May 2016. Recombu editor-in-chief Rory Reid is one of the six new presenters, lead by radio presenter Chris Evans and Friends star Matt LeBlanc.

The job would have been much easier if Netflix had secured the rights, as House of Cars was a truly excellent name. But Amazon did and so here we are, still waiting to know what the Top Gear competitor will be called. Looks like we could be in for a bit of a wait.
