Watch the 1,340hp Koenigsegg One:1 tear up Suzuka

The Koenigsegg One:1 is a rare sight, with less than ten on the planet, but that hasn’t stopped the Swedish manufacturer from showing exactly what its mental hypercar can do in the right hands.

The video posted by KoenigseggSweden shows the 1,340hp beast lap the Suzuka circuit in Japan lap in the sort of time mere mortals could only dream of, with a passenger brought along for the ride.

We should point out the first lap – although extremely quick in itself – is merely a warm up. The second lap is where the driver takes the famous circuit ‘at speed’, but even then it looks utterly effortless.

The One:1 gets its name from the ratio of horsepower to kg. Yes, this car weighs 1,340kg, which means a ratio of 1,000bhp per tonne. A Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, meanwhile, only manages 635bhp so that should give you some idea of how insane the Swedish monster is.

All that horsepower comes from a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, while downforce of 600kg ensures it stays on terra firma at speed. It’s hardly surprising, then, the top speed is a believable 258mph ─ a figure Koenigsegg no doubt hopes to cement into the Guinness World Records one day.

If there is one car that will put the One:1 in its place, it’s the Koenigsegg Regera. A combination of a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that develops 1,100hp and three electric motors make a total to 1,800hp, although total output is restricted to over 1,500hp. Blasting from 93 to 155mph takes just 3.2 seconds, while peak torque is a frankly unbelievable 2,000Nm ─ double that of a Ferrari LaFerrari.

As one Youtuber commenter said: “I need to change my pants now…” Watch the video and see one of the world’s fastest road cars and wish you had the bank account of an oil baron.
