You need to see Kahn Design’s six-wheeled Land Rover Defender

Land Rover may have ceased production of the Defender, but the British 4×4 lives on as part of a crazy 6×6 Kahn Design concept set for a Geneva Motor Show 2015 unveiling.

The Flying Huntsman 110 WB 6×6 Concept is an evolution of the pre-existing Flying Huntsman 105 Longnose Defender. It has a 400mm longer bonnet, 800mm longer rear cabin and is 150mm wider than the Land Rover Defender 110 it is based on.

By stretching the bonnet, Kahn Design is able to sneak in a 6.2-litre General Motors LS3 V8 engine that develops around 430bhp, making it considerably more powerful than the standard Defender. Gear changes are handled by a six-speed automatic with tap shift control.

The British vehicle modifier has done its best to make the Flying Huntsman concept an off-roading beast. Whether you go for four or six wheels (yes, six), you can expect a hi-lo ratio drive system with locking differentials, ‘rugged heavy duty chassis’, upgraded brakes and upgraded suspension.

It’s not all about conquering Mother Nature. A panoramic roof that extends from the B-pillars to the back of the vehicle lets you gaze at the heavens. Styling inspired by Kahn’s Chelsea Truck Company Defenders, meanwhile, ensures heads turn as you cruise on by.

Five potential versions of the concept are being considered, including a pick-up, hard-top and even B4, B6, B6+ and B7 armoured variants (B7 is the highest level and capable of protecting occupants from armor piercing bullets) for those who want the ultimate in protection.

So far the Flying Huntsman 110 WB 6×6 Concept – codenamed Mission 1 – is just a concept, but talks to ‘map out a production schedule’ are in progress. So you may well be able to buy this beast in the near future. Expect more details to emerge after the unveiling on the 3rd of March, 2015.

On the subject of bonkers off-roaders, Mercedes recently unveiled the G 500 4×4², a lime green beast that is a sibling of the six-wheeled 6×6 Mercedes G 63 AMG.

Recombu Cars boss man Rory Reid went behind the scenes with Kahn Design back in 2013. Here’s how he got on.
