Rural fibre broadband community group B4RN have connected the latest premises to their 1Gbps network.
Abbeystead in rural Lancashire is the latest place on the B4RN rollout map and was actually connected to the network two weeks ago. Delays caused by the weather meant that moving on to the next stage couldn’t happen but today B4RN is reporting that all systems are go as normal.
B4RN hopes to have more properties in Abbeystead connected to its network this Wednesday as it continues its rollout with a vengeance.

As well as this, B4RN has relaunched its share program, meaning locals and anyone else interested in helping the project can invest. Shares are £1 each and there’s a minimum investment of £100.
B4RN charges £30/month plus a £150 connection fee for a service that provides 1Gbps download and upload speeds. While this is a cut above your average domestic broadband products, it’s cheaper per month than BT’s FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) which costs £38/month and gives you download speeds of just (!) 330Mbps.
Under current plans, B4RN aims to have over 1,400 places connected to its network under the first phase of its plan, gradually expanding outwards over rural north Lancashire. By 2019, B4RN aims to have connected around 15,000 premises to gigabit fibre.
