BBC iPlayer Radio for Android launches, Kindle Fire HD supported

BBC iPlayer Radio for Android has launched, bringing the full line-up of BBC’s digital radio stations to Android phones and tablets, including the Amazon Kindle Fire HD.

As well as essentially turning your phone or tablet into a portable digital radio, you can set alarms so you can wake up with your favourite DJ or morning programme, set programme reminders and access podcasts, live music sessions and other catch-up content from the last seven days.

You can access content either via WiFi or 3G/4G but duing to the amounts of data you’ll get through, we’d recommend the former option.

We love the look and feel of the new app, specifically the old analogue telephone dialler-style menu that lets you flip between radio stations. Check out the BBC’s video below for a better idea of how it all works.

The interface of the Android app has been designed specifically for the OS and so it’ll look and behave a little differently than what’s available to iPhone and iPad owners. The Android app apparently makes it easier to search for all content available via a specific radio station.

The BBC says that these design changes mean there’s more on-screen space when considering adding extra functions in the future and will be looking at how it’ll incorporate this design into the iOS app.

BBC iPlayer Radio for Android is available to download now from Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
