BT Infinity 4 300Mbps service now available

BT has added BT Infinity 4, a new broadband package that provides download speeds of 300Mbps.

For £50/month plus BT line rental, BT Infinity 4 is a new turbo-charged service that’s only available to a select lucky few. Currently only about 100,000 homes and businesses can get the new service. As BT’s commercial rollout continues and BDUK (Broadband Delivery for the UK) contracts start delivering results, more should be able to order this.

As well as providing speeds head and shoulders above the UK average, your BT Infinity 4 line will be a future-proof full fibre line.

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to the UK’s Fibre Broadband providersThinkbroadband spotted Infinity 4, announced last month, appearing on BT’s products and services page. BT Infinity 4 is a fibre broadband service that uses FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) technology.

Unlike FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) which is what the BT Infinity 1 and 2 packages use, your speed doesn’t depend on the distance from your street cabinet as there’s no copper element to the connection.

BT has launched an FTTP On Demand programme which lets customers pay to upgrade the copper last mile and replace it with fibre, turning an FTTC line into an FTTP one. This service is only available at a handful of BT exchanges and is strictly a business-only thing for now.

It’s expected that a residential version of FTTP On Demand will be launched in the future. With the prices being what they are currently, it’s way beyond the wallets of most homeowners, so we’d expect prices to drop accordingly.
