BT Sport, the forthcoming trio of live sport channels from BT, could arrive on Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles.
Nothing’s been set in stone yet, but we understand that BT is keen on getting its upcoming channels onto the current-gen Xbox and the new machine. A spokesperson told us:
“We will be discussing this with Microsoft for both the Xbox [360] and Xbox One once BT Sport has launched later this summer.”
Read Recombu Digital’s guide to BT SportBT Sport, due to launch in August, is available free to any customer with a BT Broadband line and can be accessed through a BT Vision box, a BT YouView box or a Sky+ HD box. Sky TV customers who don’t want a BT broadband service can also access the channels, but will have to pay an extra £12/month or £15/month if they want the HD channels too.
Sports fans will also be able to access content on-line through a BT Sport app. We’d expect that Xbox owners will need to enter login details on their console the same way they’d have to on the BT Sport desktop and mobile apps.
There’s been much talk about the TV credentials of the forthcoming Xbox One. It’s been demonstrated that when set up in your living room you’ll be able to switch seamlessley between live TV and gaming, but we’re curious to see how on-demand services like Sky Go and Virgin TV Anywhere will work with the Xbox One.
As for BT Sport, talks won’t be taking place with Microsoft until after the channels have launched. Any football fans hoping to watch the action via their trusty old 360 may have to wait. Its possible that the service will only be headed to the new Xbox One instead of both consoles.
