Chromecast mirroring hits LG G3, HTC One and other Android phones

Chromecast now lets you mirror your Android phone’s screen on your TV.

An update to the Chromecast app, announced last week, now lets you cast your phone’s entire screen to your TV set.

You’ll be able to do boring things like check work email and Facebook on your TV as well as do more fun stuff like show off amusing Google Maps finds to your friends.

Right now, only a handful of high end Android phones and tablets are supported, but Google will be supporting more devices soon.

Chromecast now lets you ping whatever's on your Android phone to your TV screen. Maybe kill all those Redtube incognito tabs in Chrome first.

  • Nexus 5
  • Nexus 7 (2013)

  • LG G3

Watch our video review of Chromecast, the no-brainer big screenerKenghe said that this feature is currently in beta and will roll out on popular Android phones or tablets from Samsung, HTC, LG, and others over the next few days. On Nexus devices, this feature is also available through the quick settings menu.

From the navigation drawer, select “Cast Screen” and touch the “Cast Screen” button then select the Chromecast dongle as it appears on your network.

To stop casting to a screen users should access the notification drop down drawer from their Android device and select “Disconnect” on the notification bar. An alternative method is to reopen the Chromecast App and from the navigation drawer, select “Cast Screen” and select the ‘Disconnect’ button.

Ambarish Kenghe, Chromecast product manager said: “Now, anything on your Android device will appear on the TV. You can share photos stored on your phone with a group of friends, or scope out the scenery for your next family vacation together on the big screen using Google Earth.”

We’re keen to see if streaming services like ITV Player, 4oD and Sky Go will now work with Chromecast. Sky Go blocks HDMI output on tablets so we suspect, given that you plug Chromecast an HDMI socket, it wouldn’t work here. There’s only one way to find out – we’ll be posting our findings once we get hole of the updated Chormecast app.

Version 1.7 of the Chromecast app is the one you’ll need to have installed in order to experiment with this feature.
