Dead Orbit wins first Destiny 2 faction rally (and there’s a reward)

The first Destiny 2 faction rally is over and there is a reward waiting for you if you chose Dead Orbit over Future War Cult and New Monarchy. But what is it exactly and should you care?

Game developer Bungie has just revealed the winner of its first faction rally within its sci-fi first-person shooter, Destiny 2. Dead Orbit came in first by a significant margin, thanks to more players flying the flag while shooting Red Legion than any other faction.

The reward for anyone who sided with Dead Orbit is the ability to buy a faction-specific scout rifle known as Haunted Earth, which comes with the slightly morbid description: “Those we’ve lost still linger in every place we look. Earth is no place for the living.”

It costs 1,000 glimmer for those who were in Dead Orbit during the faction rally and 50,000 for those who joined the Future War Cult and New Monarchy factions.

In terms of looks, Haunted Earth is as sleek as you would expect from Destiny 2‘s least colourful faction. Unfortunately though, it is less impressive than, say, Nameless Midnight, which deals out area-of-effect explosive damage for maximum NPC-killing action.

Still, the High-Caliber Rounds perk, which knocks targets back, and Field Prep, which increases ammo reserves and speeds up the reload when crouched, could work. Plus the magazine is a decent 13 rounds and the impact level is high, assuming you can make its slow-firing bullets hit your target.

Even if you think the weapon is rubbish, it will be worth it for Dead Orbit buyers to stump up 1,000 glimmer to take it apart for legendary shards, which can be used to upgrade weapons and armour to better power levels.

Dead Orbit was the most popular faction in the first Destiny game and that seems to be the case again in Destiny 2 (initially, at least), which may have something to do with the fact Peter Stormare – of Fargo, Jurassic Park 2 and Prison Break fame – voices the faction’s in-game character, Arach Jalaal.

Destiny 2 actually just underwent a significant update (1.0.3.1 patch) to sort out some of its early issues, including a glitch where Trials of the Nine and Leviathan Raid rewards would sometimes only come with 10 power and stopping players from reaching certain places during PvP matches.

How to enter a Destiny 2 faction rally?

It was originally thought that Destiny 2 faction rallies would be a weekly thing, but Bungie has since corrected that line of thought but without saying exactly how often they will run. Best to load up Destiny 2 every now and then to find out when the next faction rally is expected.

When one was is in action, you need to first enable faction rallies by speaking to the characters representing each of the three Destiny 2 factions in the Tower and then accept to join your preferred faction by speaking to the respective faction leader.
