Deezer hooks up with IFTTT, thumbs nose at Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal

Deezer has launched an IFTTT channel, letting smart home owners change the colour of their Philips Hue bulbs with the power of music.

The latest move from the long-time Spotify rival sees it bring something new to the table in the face of fresh competition from upstarts Apple Music and Tidal.

Home automation fans will already know about IFTTT (If This Then That), a cross-platform service that allows for easy pairing of appliances and services.

In Deezer’s case, this means right now, you can configure IFTTT so that you can store your listening history in a Google spreadsheet, or make your Philips Hue lights change colour to reflect the current album artwork.

Alexandre Croiseaux, VP Product at Deezer, commented: “We’re really excited to be working with IFTTT, as it will open up the Deezer experience for listeners in new ways.

“Now, they can make up their own ‘recipes’ that let them discover and share music in a completely unique way – making music the start of something social or the answer to an everyday action. It’s a cool, fun and unique way to make listening to music even better. Really, the only limit is your imagination.”

Deezer has thrown together a list of recipes on IFTTT now but they’re fairly straightforward. The beauty of IFTTT is that it’ll only be a matter of time before some genius works out a recipe that will see your Sonos speakers pump out your own personal intro theme via Deezer the moment you walk through the door

While there’s no official Spotify channel yet, that hasn’t stopped folks from creating a string of recipes that mainly leverage Spotify’s connection to Last.fm.
