Freesat snaps up Challenge and Pick timeshift channels

Free to air satellite broadcaster Freesat has launched +1 catch-up channels for quiz show repeats vortex Challenge and Pick, the channel formerly known as Sky 3.

The new channels can be found by pointing your remote or your Freesat app at channels 160 and 159.

Popular programmes include The Dog Whisperer, A Town Called Eureka and Criminal Minds on Pick and repeats of classic Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Pointless, not to mention Knightmare and the Crystal Maze

Paul Gilshan, Freesat’s Marketing and Communications Director, said: “With more than 200 channels on offer, we’re able to bring our viewers more choice than ever across film, lifestyle, music and children’s programming.

“We’re excited to add Pick+1 and Challenge+1 to Freesat’s ever-expanding entertainment line-up, guaranteeing free TV viewers will never be short of something great to watch. And best of all, it’s subscription free.”

Freesat is the satellite TV equivalent of Freeview – after a one-off payment for your set-top box or TV plus dish installation, that’s it. No subscriptions, no renewal fees.

If you want some extra connected catch-up action in your life you can shell out for a Freetime box like the Humax HDR-100S or a TV – Panasonic smart TVs like the AX802 from last year come with both Freeview and Freesat tuners built in.

Freetime lets you access catch-up content from services like BBC iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player and Demand 5 as well as stream YouTube videos. The YouTube app also works with Leanback – a kind of stone-age Chromecast – that means you can easily search for YouTube content on your phone instead of having to clunk around in smart TV menus.
