Gigaclear ultrafast fibre broadband greenlit for Welland Valley

Rural pure fibre ISP Gigaclear is set to start work on a new network in Leicestershire’s picturesque Welland Valley in. 

The subscriber-driven service has drummed-up enough local support to begin work on the new network, which will bring ultrafast FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) broadband to the villages of Blaston, Bringhurst, Cranoe, Drayton, Glooston, Hallaton, Horninghold, Medbourne, Nevill Holt, Slawston and Stockerston. 

The service will give local people access to symmetric speeds of up to 1Gbps, far in excess of the current national average. 

Tom Purnell, Leicester County Council’s assistant chief executive, was pleased with the news that the company was ready to get started on the new network. “I am delighted that Gigaclear has committed to bring its ultrafast fibre broadband to rural Leicestershire.

“The villages Gigaclear will be rolling out to include significant areas that are not part of any other commercial or subsidised plan. This investment will transform the connected lives of businesses and communities in some of the most rural parts of the County.”

Currently, Gigaclear owns and operates 17 rural networks up and down the country, and the company has vowed to add plenty more as it looks to continue pushing the latest broadband technology out to people living in the cuds.

Only last month, Gigaclear secured £6.5 million in funding which it intends to use to hit 6,000 more premises, in addition to those it already runs in Oxfordshire, Kent and Rutland.

The champions in the Welland Valley Broadband Group have worked alongside our own team to build the demand to the point where the business case works for us, to build a new Ultrafast pure fibre network across the whole area. We look forward to transforming the online experience for residents and businesses in the Welland Valley this summer.”

No dates have yet been given for when the network will be up and running.
